Ang pangangalakal ng CFD ay angkop sa kapital na kayang mong ilaan, hindi perang kailangan mo.

One standard-lot NAS100 round turn at AvaTrade costs roughly $9 in spread, based on the quoted NAS100 spread from around 0.9 pip on a spread-only account model. That is the number we start from, because a review that does not price a trade is an opinion, not a review. For Philippines readers, we then layer on the things that actually decide whether money comes back out: which regulator stands behind the account, what the peso-to-dollar conversion costs, and how the BIR treats the profit.

Our Review Checklist

We score a broker on five weighted blocks. Each one has a fixed set of tests, and we run the same tests on every broker so the comparison holds up.

BlockWhat we checkWhy it matters to you
RegulasyonEntity name, licence numbers, register lookupDetermines who you can complain to
CostSpread, commission, swap, conversionThe number that eats your profit
PagpopondoDeposit and withdrawal rails, fees, timingWhether the money returns
PlatformOrder types, execution, mobile buildWhether you can actually trade
Tax and supportLocal reporting, response timeWhether you stay compliant

For AvaTrade specifically, the licence block resolves to multiple international authorities, including the Central Bank of Ireland, ASIC in Australia, the FSCA in South Africa, Japan's FSA, and ADGM. That list does not include a Philippine licence, and we treat that as one line in the checklist, not a verdict.

We verify registrations ourselves. You can do the same: SEC company checks at sec.gov.ph and the eRAMP portal, and the SEC advisories page for firms flagged as unauthorised.

Costs We Actually Price

Spread quotes are marketing. We convert them. Take the quoted NAS100 spread from around 0.9 pip, no commission on the standard account model, and multiply by the standard contract. One pip on a standard lot is $10, so 0.9 pip is about $9 per round turn. On a mini lot, the same trade costs about $0.90.

AvaTrade runs a spread-based model with no commission, and the minimum deposit sits at $100 USD or EUR. Those two facts together set the realistic entry point. At $100 and a $9 round-turn cost on a standard lot, you are not trading standard lots; you are trading micro lots at roughly $0.09 per round turn, which is workable but leaves little room for a wide spread day.

Three questions come up in almost every message we get from Manila, Cebu, and Davao.

Is AvaTrade regulated in the Philippines?

No. AvaTrade is not directly regulated by the SEC Philippines or the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. It operates under its international framework instead. In practice this means there is no local licence number to look up and no Philippine regulator standing behind your account if a dispute goes wrong. It also means the protections you get are the ones attached to the offshore entity that holds your account, so the register lookup matters more, not less.

How much leverage can a Filipino account get?

Up to 1:400 on the global default. Locally offered products sit under a much lower historical frame: BSP Circular No. 969 from 2017 framed retail FX leverage around a 1:25 maximum. The gap between 1:25 and 1:400 is not a technicality. At 1:400, a 0.25% adverse move uses up your entire margin. That is one average hourly candle on a news day.

What does it cost to move money in and out?

Deposits carry no fee on AvaTrade's side, and withdrawals are free of charge, with processing and any third-party charges depending on the payment method. GCash and Maya are the rails most Filipino traders reach for, alongside InstaPay and PESONet. InstaPay moves in real time, 24/7, with a PHP 50,000 per-transaction cap; PESONet batches higher-value transfers on the next settlement cycle. Base-currency accounts are typically USD, so a PHP-USD conversion of roughly 1-3% applies somewhere in the chain. E-wallet deposits usually land near-instantly; withdrawals commonly take 1-3 business days.

PRO TIP
Cost the conversion before you deposit. If you are funding PHP 25,000, a 1-3% conversion hit is PHP 250-750 gone before your first trade.

Ang agwat ng leverage at dokumento

The leverage gap is the one that catches people. BSP Circular No. 969 framed local retail FX leverage around 1:25, while offshore brokers commonly offer 1:100 up to 1:500+ to Filipino clients. The higher number is available to you and it is also the fastest way to lose an account.

The second is documentation on the way out. There are no hard prohibitions on residents funding foreign broker accounts from their own funds, but purchases of foreign currency from the banking system for certain purposes carry documentation and registration thresholds under BSP FX rules, and outward investments above those thresholds may need registration for future repatriation through the banking system. Large transfers out can get slow, and getting money back through the banking system is smoother when the paperwork was done at the start.

Third is the third-party record. Some Philippines-focused reviews describe AvaTrade as well-regulated and suitable for local traders, while another flags high FX trade and inactivity fees. We do not resolve that by picking a side; we note it and move on, because inactivity fee schedules are exactly the kind of line item you check before you open, not after.

PAALALA
The SEC Philippines publishes ongoing advisories against unauthorised and unregistered forex platforms, and the list is dynamic. Check the current entries yourself before you fund any account, not just this one.

Our Verdict On This Broker

AvaTrade clears the regulation block on the strength of its international licences and the age of the business: AvaTrade Group was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. It clears the cost block on a transparent spread model with no commission. It does not clear the local block, because there is no local licence. That is the whole picture.

Pick it if: You want a long-running international broker with multiple tier-one regulators, a spread-only cost model you can price in advance, a $100 entry point, and both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 plus WebTrader and the AvaTrade app. If you are in Mindanao and need a swap-free account, AvaTrade offers Islamic accounts, which matters to a minority of Filipino traders but is a real requirement when it applies.

Pass if: You need the account covered by a Philippine regulator, or you want a firm that is SEC-registered for local solicitation. Look instead for a broker with an FCA, CySEC, or ASIC entity named on your account agreement, client fund segregation stated in writing, a fee schedule with no inactivity clause, and a support line you can reach during Philippine daytime hours. Those are the criteria we would apply to any name in this category, this one included.

Where the Scenario Usually Lands

The most likely path for a Filipino reader is this: you find AvaTrade through a search, check the licence list, see Ireland and Australia, feel reassured, and open an account with PHP 10,000. Then nothing dramatic happens. You trade small, you pay about 0.9 pip on NAS100, you eat a 1-3% conversion on funding, and you withdraw in a few business days. The friction is not the broker. The friction is the conversion, the leverage you chose to use, and the BIR treatment of the profit at year end.

That is the scenario to plan for, and it is a boring one, which is the point. Forex and CFD profit is taxed as ordinary income in the Philippines, not under a separate capital gains regime. It goes under "Other Taxable Income" on your annual return, only realised closed-trade gains count, and net losses may be claimed as itemized deductions. Resident individuals pay TRAIN-law progressive rates: 0% up to PHP 250,000, then bracketed up to 35% on income over PHP 8,000,000. Resident citizens are taxed on worldwide income; non-residents face a flat 25% on Philippine-sourced income. Keep the trade log from day one, because reconstructing a year of closed trades in April is the part people actually regret.
